NPC’s are the heart of the story. These characters point the players in the right direction, support the mission, give advice, and help the world feel complete and full.
NPC’s on the other hand, are also the big bad villains, thugs, fodder, bosses, and other obstacles to throw at the players. These characters are generally one sided and flat, but characters that keep coming back need to be full and fleshed out characters.
Giving the NPC’s a backstory and a reason for being the way they are will create a more believable character. In fact a character created for one game can be slightly modified to work in another game if it is a favored character by the GM. My characters, “Digital Doom” and “Barney” are two such characters. They both started out as player characters for Shadowrun back in the 1990’s. I have used them both for several games, and have ended up putting them into Subversion.
Digital Doom will not be posted on this site as he is the host of the podcast that we are working on, and webmaster for this website. Barney, who is a local bar owner of the “Purple Dieno” in the undercity, will be posted here eventually with both a character sheet and back story.
It is my hope that other GM’s will decide to post their NPC’s on this site with back stories and character sheets for others to use. We will give credit to anyone that wants to post these sheets.
If you want to post here, email me at digitaldoom01@hotmail.com
I look forward to hearing from you all
