I want to give a shout out to all GM’s out there. I know being the GM, DM, Facilitator or what ever you call it in your game, can be difficult. One of the most successful things that I found to run games is to take notes. Not detailed notes, just ones that remind me of what happened.
A great way to do this is to record the session, with permission of the players, and take notes from the recording. I prefer doing it this way as it reminds me of things I overlooked in the original notes. This was usually a backstory part for one of the PC’s.
That being said, I also think that the PC’s backstory should be integrated into your narrative. Don’t run with a single players backstory before starting the next one either. Just add pieces of the stories throughout the campaign. That way you are keeping the PC history and ideals vital to the narrative. Just remember to take notes on these parts of the story as it is important to the player affected.
The notes can be just that, notes, or they can be so much more. One GM I worked with in Shadowrun would take the notes and put them into stories and created a newspaper in the settings. These papers would be designed and posted for all the PCs to see, then were uploaded to my old site for all to see. These notes were amazing to see.
Another type of notes that I have heard was the bards stories. One GM would create a bards song for each highpoint and low point in the campaign. It would be a short song about the players characters and their exploits. This style of notes defiantly kept the story in mind, but forgot the PC’s backstory notes.
No matter the kind of notes you take, you should consider posting them somewhere the players can access, if there are no secrets in the notes.
If you are interested in posting your notes here, I would of course post them in a page for your games. Then you are sharing them with the players and the world, well at least the followers of this page and Subversion in general.
Well, this is all for now, I will continue to grow the site and build on the success of Subversion for (hopefully) years to come.
Remember what I always say folks,
Keep your equipment clean, your guns ready, and your eyes open, and you may just live long enough to learn something.
